Certifications
What will you need to teach in the Phoenix Elementary School District?
Teachers must be highly qualified and appropriately certified to work in the Phoenix Elementary School District. Teachers will need the following to be considered:
- Completed online application
- Arizona Teaching Certificate (Reciprocal Provisional, Provisional, Standard)
- Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card. Call (602) 223-2279 to request an application
- Official Transcripts showing a posted degree
- MMR vaccination (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) if born after 1957
- Proof of citizenship or proof of ability to work in the United States.

Position Requirements
PROVISIONAL ELEMENTARY K-8
- BA Degree
- One of the following:
- Completion of a Teacher prep program in elementary education
- 45 hours of education courses that includes practicum or 2 years verified full-time teaching
- A valid elementary certificate from another state
- Passing score on elementary professional knowledge and subject knowledge Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessment
- Structured English Immersion training
- Arizona fingerprint clearance card
PROVISIONAL SECONDARY 7-12
- BA Degree
- One of the following:
- Completion of a Teacher prep program in secondary education
- 30 hours of education courses that includes practicum or 2 years verified full-time teaching
- A valid elementary certificate from another state
- Passing score on secondary professional knowledge and subject knowledge Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessment
- Structured English Immersion training
- Arizona fingerprint clearance card
TEACHING INTERN CERTIFICATE
- Arizona fingerprint clearance card
- Official Transcripts documenting a Bachelor's or more advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education
- One of the following:
- A passing score on the subject knowledge portion of the Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessment
- 24 semester hours of coursework in the subject area if proficiency assessment is not offered in the subject area
- "Letter of intent to hire" indicating grade-level and content assignment
- Letter from the institution of higher education indicating candidate is enrolled and assigned a supervisor
RECIPROCAL PROVISIONAL CERTIFICATE
- A valid, comparable out-of .state teaching certificate from any other state in the U.S.
- A Bachelor's or more advanced degree from an accredited institution.
- Official transcripts showing a posted degree
- Arizona fingerprint clearance card
NEW TO TEACHING
- All teachers in Phoenix Elementary School District #1 must meet state certification and federal NCLB requirements.
- Please contact the Phoenix Teaching Fellows program to learn more about how to undergo training and start teaching as a highly-qualified teacher this fall.
- Phoenix Teaching Fellows is a highly-selective program designed to recruit and train socially-driven individuals who want to give back to our community by becoming teachers in our high-need schools. This is an alternate route to teaching program designed for recent college graduates and individuals making a career change to teaching.
