Phoenix Elementary District #1 & ASU Preparatory Academy Continue
Growing Unprecedented Partnership

Phoenix, AZ – April 9, 2012 – One hundred thirty seven thousand square feet of roof is being “raised” and replaced on the Phoenix Elementary School District #1 owned campus at 7th Street & Fillmore. The campus is home to ASU Preparatory Academy, a K-10 Charter School. The partnership between the school district and charter school has been in place for three years and is producing numerous opportunities for the District, ASU Prep Academy and the students of Phoenix.

The once purple roof, now appearing mauve, was installed when the school was built in 1990. The new roof is Energy Star Rated, and will deliver high solar reflectance providing significant reductions to the required cooling energy load by reducing heat transfer to the building. The roof installation will be completed in June. The District Governing Board worked diligently to insure the metal from the existing roof is recycled and the credit is returned to the District fund. The new roof holds a twenty-year, leak-free guarantee.

The roofing project is symbolic of the successful partnership between the District and Charter School that also brings professional development opportunities, shared resources and programs for both students and staff to both organizations.

“We are pleased the roof on this campus has served us for twenty-two years. However the time has come to replace the roof, and we are so pleased to be able to install this new roof for our partners in education at ASU Preparatory Academy,” stated Superintendent Myriam Roa of Phoenix Elementary School District #1. “Our Governing Board, Administration and District Architect ADM Group, worked diligently to insure the best choice was made for the roof that will serve the school for the next twenty years,” added Superintendent Roa.
