  • Academics & Clubs

Our core focus at Capitol Elementary School is an emphasis on rigorous academics in every subject area including: reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies and science. We believe our core mission is to ensure that every child is achieving at or above grade level in each subject area. Our intervention programs are designed to quickly and effectively identify remediation and enrichment opportunities for each and every child through data-based decision-making. We believe that with good instruction, children love learning.

Each of the programs identified at Capitol Elementary School are built on the philosophy of implementing programs that are proven successful in other urban districts. At Capitol Elementary School, we believe in monitoring and intervening to ensure all children are successful academically and have opportunities to grow and succeed beyond the core curriculum. At Capitol Elementary School, we practice successful instructional strategies while learning and growing together through collaboration and professional development.

    Arts & Physical Education

Arts and Physical Education classes are an integral part of our curriculum at Capitol. Although many school districts have cut these programs, we believe in the education of the whole child and know that arts and physical education lead to a balanced curriculum for learning. At Capitol, each grade level participates in both art and physical education weekly.

Murals can be found all around Capitol’s Campus. The most recent Butterfly mural was completed in the Spring of 2020 by retired Art Teacher Rudy Begay. He ensured to include students by allowing them to guide the colors and ensuring they took ownership of the project through piecing together the mosaic tiles and organizing the installation of the art .
