Hats Off to Learning: A Special Visit from Diamondbacks Star

Excitement filled the halls of Emerson Elementary this week when Arizona Diamondbacks Center Fielder and 2023 Rookie of the Year Corbin Carroll made a surprise visit! Stopping by eight Kindergarten and 1st Grade classrooms, Mr. Carroll hand-delivered copies of Martian Moon Mayhem, a STEM storybook starring himself and Baxter, the D-backs mascot. Each student also received a Diamondbacks hat to complete the memorable experience.

Mr. Carroll shared that he enjoys doing this because seeing the students’ energy, excitement, and positivity inspires him, “it makes my day—my week!”

One kindergartner thought Mr. Carroll had just let him borrow a hat for a moment. As Carroll was leaving, the student called out, “You forgot your hat!” With a big smile, Mr. Carroll replied, “No, that’s your hat now—that’s a gift!” The realization lit up the student’s face as he immediately began adjusting the hat to fit just right.
