• Governing Board Approves New Pay Raise for Certified Substitute Teachers

    At Phoenix Elementary School District #1, we are committed to supporting the dedicated individuals who help keep our classrooms running smoothly. On September 30, 2024, new certified substitute pay rates, approved by the Phoenix #1 Governing Board, went into effect for the 2024-2025 school year.

    We are committed to providing the best for our students, and a well-compensated, reliable pool of substitute teachers is key to achieving that goal. Substitute teachers play a vital role in ensuring our students receive an uninterrupted, high-quality education even if their regular teachers are unavailable. Substitutes step-in and step-up to maintain the learning environment.

    The new pay rates are part of our ongoing efforts to attract and retain highly qualified substitute teachers. These adjustments are designed to reflect the rising costs of living and to ensure that substitute pay remains competitive across the Valley.

    Certified  Long-term  Long-term rate starts on Day 10* $190/day

    *Definition of Long-term:

    • Long-term rate starts on Day 10 when days 1-9 are consecutive and in the same assignment.
    • Retro pay for days 1-9 if an absence extends to day 10. 
    • Long-term rate starts on Day 1 if known ahead of time to be a long-term assignment that is 10 days or more in the same assignment.
