Ensuring a Successful Transition to High School
The high school graduation rate for our students who move on to Phoenix Union High School District is 86.8%. Compared to the Arizona graduation rate of 76%, we see that our students are successfully achieving well beyond test scores. We are proud of an almost 3% increase in graduation rates for our students from 2015 to 2016, and strive to continue increasing the graduation rates for our students who spent their elementary and middle school years in our classrooms.
There are numerous programs underway to ensure a successful transition to high school for our eighth-grade students including the formation of a Youth Advisory Committee. The purpose of the committee is to give meaningful input into the decision-making process of the District and serve as a resource to the District leadership team. This provides the students the opportunity to improve their school community while building their advocacy and leadership abilities. We are thrilled to give these middle school students a voice and to enable them to experience the reward of helping themselves and their peers.
Hundreds of eighth-grade students also attend the District’s Annual High School Night to learn about and meet with public and private high schools to find the best fit for their high school years.
We are working hard to hear from our students and ensure their academic success with numerous projects underway to ensure each and every student graduates from high school and achieves their dream!
